Ophiopogon Decoction

Chinese Prescription: Mai Men Dong Tang

English Translation: Ophiopogon Decoction

Formula Type: Enrich the Yin and Moisten Dryness

Actions: Benefits the Stomach, generates fluids, & directs rebellious qi downward.

Indications: Coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing up of phlegm that is difficult to expectorate, or spitting of saliva, a dry & uncomfortable sensation in the throat, dry mouth, heat of the palms & soles, a dry, red tongue with little coating, & a deficient, rapid pulse. The original indication of this formula is Lung atrophy due to heat.

Contraindications: Use with caution in cases with high fever & irritability, where the pathogenic influence remains in the exterior, & the qi & yin have yet to be affected.
