Formula Type: Moisten the Intestines and Unblock the Bowels
Actions: Moistens the Intestines & unblocks the bowels.
Indications: For constipation (usually severe) from injury to the Spleen & Stomach due to wind-heat entering the Intestines or from improper diet or overwork. This type of constipation in cludes aspects of blood deficiency, blood stasis, & wind (due to blood deficiency). The generation of wind further desiccates the Intestines, thereby aggravating the constipation.

CautionsOverdosage or long-term use may result in vaginal discharge or spermatorrhea. Severity of overdose symptoms are related to the dosage. Treatment is based on gastric lavage, fluids, & symptomatic therapy. |

Also very commonly used fro blood deficiency associated with menstrual disorders such as irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, etc.
2. Invigorates & harmonizes the blood & disperses cold: an important herb for stopping pain due to blood stasis. Commonly used for abdominal pain, traumatic injury, & carbuncles due to blood stasis, especially when there is also cold from deficiency. Also used in the treatment of blood deficiency with chronic wind-damp painful obstruction.
