Fo Shou / Finger Citron, Lit. "Budda Hand"
Fo Shou
Taste: Acrid, Bitter • Temperature: Slightly Warm • Category: Regulate Qi, Move Qi • Sub Category:

Dosage

3-9g

Actions

1. Spreads & regulates the Liver qi: for rib or flank pain, distention, & belching due to constrained Liver qi. The herb strongly promotes the movement of qi, but its ability to alleviate pain is weak.

2. Harmonizes the Stomach & strengthens the Spleen: for Spleen & Stomach qi stagnation with epigastric pain, fullness & distention, a lack of appetite, belching & /or vomiting.

3. Dries dampness & transforms phlegm: for subacute & chronic cough with copious phlegm. Especially useful for unrelenting coughs with chest pain. Because its phlegm-transforming function is rather weak, its is not used in treating the early stages of externally contracted coughs.

Meridians

Liver, Lung, Stomach, Spleen

Cautions

Use with caution in cases without stagnant qi, & in cases of yin deficiency with heat signs.
