Dosage 3-9g	Actions 1. Binds up the Intestines & stops diarrhea: for chronic diarrhea & dysenteric disorders. Can be used for both hot & cold patterns depending on the other herbs in the prescription. 2. Contains the leakage of Lung qi, stops coughing, & improves the condition of the throat: for chronic cough, wheezing, & loss of voice. When combined with appropriate herbs, can be used for cough due to phlegm-fire obstructing the Lungs.	Meridians Lung, Stomach, Large Intestine	Cautions Contraindicated for exterior patterns or where there is internal accumulation & stagnation of damp-heat. According to some recent studies this herb may inhibit digestive function. Therefore it should be used with caution, if at all, in patients with Spleen deficiency.
