Dosage

6-15g, often taken in wine, or directly in powder or pill form.

Actions

1. Dissipates nodules & reduces masses: for goiter. Also used for many kinds of cancers, especially those involving the esophagus, stomach, uterus, & colon.

2. Cools the blood & stops bleeding: for such symptoms as vomiting blood, coughing up blood, & uterine bleeding.

3. Reduces toxicity of toxic swellings topically for sores, snakebite, & dog bite.

Cautions

Contraindicated for abscesses that have already ulcerated. Toxicity: preparations of huang yao zi have caused nausea & vomiting that required cessation of treatment. Significant liver damage & jaundice has resulted from the use of tinctures of this herb.
