Dosage

3-9g decoction, topical as paste

Actions

Clears heat, relieves fire toxicity, & dissipates nodules: taken internally or applied topically for excessive heat patterns with such symptoms as sores, ulcers, carbuncles, toxic swellings, & scrofula.

Cautions

Use with caution in weak patients. A very toxic substance, but its onset is rather slow, usually in the area of 3-6 hours after ingestion. Signs & symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, lethargy, & in extreme cases, respiratory arrest. It can also cause disorders of the blood such as granulocytopenia.
